During the Battle of Dan-no-Ura, Nii-no-Ama grabbed, plunged, and drowned Emperor Antoku in the straits. This shrine enshrines Emperor Antoku. The white-walled, vermillion painted Suitenmon Gate faces Kanmon Straits. The House of Heike’s grave, Hoichido from the story of Hoichi the Earless, which was first translated to English in Yakumo Koizumi’s (born Patrick Lafcadio Hearn) Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things, and significant historical documents are in the Homotsuden (treasure hall) at this shrine.
On Every Year May 3, it becomes the Main Venue of the late Emperor festival who is famous in 上臈参拝. In addition, I am lighted up at night.
