The residence of the Oda Family is a representative merchant house with white plaster walls which connects Furuichi and Kanaya. With an area size of 2561㎡, a floor space of 1500㎡, a frontage of 14m and a length of 119m the merchant residence have a long and narrow subdivision, also called “sleeping place of an eel”.
Within the site, there is the main house, account warehouse, a rice granary, an oil press room, an intermediate room, a utility room, a stable and tenement houses leave the atmosphere of wealthy merchants.
The merchant house is open to the public as "Museum of Merchants Muroya No Sono" and exhibits daily life and production equipment related to everyday life, farming, transport, and business. In addition, the Oda family archives (documents concerning their business activities) are deposited at the Yamaguchi Prefectural Archives.
